Rules & Regulations

 

 

1. The Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2010 ("the Event") is organised by Golazo Sdn Bhd ("the Organiser") with full support of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur ("DBKL") & the Malaysia Amateur Athletic Union ("MAAU") in accordance with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Standard Chartered KL Marathon Rules & Regulations.

2. By signing up for and providing any information, personal or otherwise, in order to gain access to any product(s) or service(s) and/or participate in any programme(s), event(s), talk(s), demonstration(s) or any activity(ies) involving the Organiser and the event sponsors ("the Sponsors"), the individual is deemed to have given written permission for the Organiser and the Sponsors to collect, analyse, collate, share, disclose to third parties, sell and/or otherwise use without any liability to the individual, any personal information relating to that individual as may in its sole discretion deem fit, including without any limitation for the following purposes:

For its programmes, planning, data-processing, and statistical or risk-analysis, research, fund-raising and/or any other purposes in furtherance of the functions, the Organiser and the Sponsors declare by virtue of being the event owner or sponsor, they can use services of third parties:

  • For development or implementation of programmes, products or services as it may deem necessary;
  • For outsourcing of any programme(s), event(s), talk(s), demonstration(s) and/or any activities;
  • For promotional, marketing and/or administrative purposes;
  • For all purposes as required by law, including without limitation court proceedings, criminal investigations or prosecutions or where so ordered by any competent authority;
  • In connection with any proposed novation, assignment, transfer, sale, lease, license, partnership, joint-organising and/or any collaboration where and when required in relation thereto.

3. The Organiser reserves the right to modify or substitute any of these rules and regulations of the Event from time to time as they deem fit. If there is ambiguity in any of the provisions, the Organiser shall be the authority to interpret and in so doing, the Organiser will take into account the interests of all the affected participants. Any update on the rules and regulations of the Event will be notified on the official website www.kl-marathon.com

4. The Organiser reserves the right to cancel the Event at any time without prior notice to the Participant, in which case the Organiser will make effort to inform the Participant prior to the date of the event. If the Event has to be cancelled, there shall be no refund of fees paid unless the Organiser deems fit to give a refund and the Organiser shall not be liable for any other loss or inconvenience caused.

5. There will be no fee refund if the event is cancelled for reason of force majeure i.e. due to occurrence of incidents that are beyond the control of the Organiser and which renders it impossible or unsafe to hold the event.

6. Completion of the official entry form, including online registration, confirms the Participant's agreement to abide by the relevant rules and regulations of the Organiser, IAAF and the Sponsors.

7. In consideration of the Participant's use of the Event's Website, the Participant agrees to: (i) provide true, accurate, current and complete information about the Participant contained in any registration form (such information being the "Registration Data"); (ii) maintain the security of the Participant's password and identification; and (iii) maintain and promptly update the Registration Data to keep it true, accurate, current and complete. The Organiser may contact the Participant from time to time by email. Any notice sent to the email address registered with the Organiser shall be deemed as received by the Participant.

If the Participant provides any information that is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, or the Organiser has grounds to suspect that such information is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, the Organiser may suspend or terminate the Participant's registration and refuse any and all current or future use of the Event's Website (or any parts thereof).

8. Whilst every reasonable precaution will be taken by the Organiser to ensure the participants' safety, participants run at their own risk and the Organiser will not be responsible or held liable for any injury or death howsoever arising from training for or during participation in the race. Participants are strongly encouraged to go for a medical examination and/or consult their medical practitioner prior to registration and before the actual race day.

9. The form on the reverse side of the participants' bib number must be completed in full and accurately. Participants must wear the assigned bib number on his/her chest. Participants who are not wearing a bib number will be taken off the course by security officers/officials.

10. Road closure on the Full Marathon Route will be lifted after six (6) hours from the commencement (cut-off time). Cut-off times will be set at specified checkpoints along the route to ensure the safety of runners who are unable to complete the race within the six (6) hours. Participants will then continue on the footpath at their own risk. Finishers not reaching the finishing line within six (6) hours are not entitled to get a finisher certificate.

11. A participant must retire from the race immediately, if required to do so by any member of the official medical staff, Race Director, Referee and/or Security Officer.

12. Pets, bicycles, in-line skates, prams, push carts, shoes with built-in or attached rollers and any other wheel-run objects are not allowed on the course other than official race and medical vehicles.

13. Once registration has been duly processed, there will be no fee refund for participants who do not eventually take part in the Event for whatever reason.

14. The Organiser reserves the right to use any photographs (including those of participants), motion pictures, recordings, or any other media records of the Event, for any legitimate purpose including commercial advertising and distribution to the Sponsors.

15. The Organiser reserves the right to limit and/or refuse entry without giving any reason and notice.

16. The Organiser will not entertain nor be in any way responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete or inaccurate entry details in the registration form.

17. Race category and race entry are strictly non-transferable.

18. Participants who commence before the actual start time of his/her registered race for will be disqualified. (Please refer to start time of each race)

19. Participants who do not start within 20 minutes from respective flag off (Full Marathon, Half Marathon & 10km) will be disqualified and for safety reasons may not be allowed to start.

20. Participants must be 18 years or older as of race day to participate in the Full Marathon (42.195km).

21. Participants must be 16 years or older as of race day to participate in the Half Marathon (21.1km) and 10km race.

22. Participants must be 13 years or older as of race day to participate in the Fun Run (5km)

23. Participants below the age of 18 are required to obtain parental/guardian's consent and complete the relevant indemnity declaration form as deemed necessary by the Organiser upon online registration or in-person registration, failing which, the Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry to any applicant under the age of 18.

24. Male and Female Veterans (only for competitive events): A Participant shall be considered a Veteran if his/her 40th birthday falls on/before the race day.

25. There is a total of five different (5) distances:

  1. Full Marathon (42.195km)
  2. Half Marathon (21.1km)
  3. 10km
  4. 5km Fun Run and Fun Run Family (see non-competitive events)
  5. Kids Dash, 3km and 950m (see non-competitive-events)

Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km (competitive events)

26. The "Gun Time" will be used to determine the winners for each of the following categories:

  1. Men's Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km (Open Category)
  2. Women's Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km (Open Category)
  3. Men's Full Marathon (Malaysian Category)
  4. Women's Full Marathon (Malaysian Category)
  5. Men's Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km (Veteran Category)
  6. Women's Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km (Veteran Category)

[Only Malaysia citizens qualify for (iii) and (iv)]

27. Each participant is allowed to win only one prize-money award. A winning participant in more than one category may elect to receive his/her award in the category offering higher prize-money. Regardless of the participant's of prize-money category selection, his/her finishing positions in each of the relevant categories will not change.

28. For prize winners or possible prize winners, disputes and appeals must be made immediately within 30 minutes of the published results on the results notice board on-site or immediately after the prize presentation, whichever is earlier, failing which the Organiser reserves the right not to entertain any disputes or appeals thereafter.

29. For all other participants, disputes and appeals regarding the results must be submitted in writing including electronic mail within 7 days of the race day. The Organiser reserves the right not to entertain any dispute or appeal after 6 July 2010.

30. All participants shall collect their Race Entry Pack which consists of their numbered bib, timing chip (Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and Corporate Challenge 10km only), Event T-shirt, runner's guidebook and other novelties at the Race Entry Pack Collection on June 24 (Thurs), 25 (Fri) or 26 (Sat), 2010. If participants are unable to collect their Race Entry Packs in person they may empower a duly authorized representative on paper to collect on their behalf. No late collection will be entertained. Race Entry Packs not collected after the last collection date will be deemed as unwanted, and the Organiser shall be at liberty to dispose or re-distribute them accordingly.

31. The Timing Tag is a single-use, disposable device. Participants can and are asked to deposit the Timing Tag to the Recycle Bin at the finish area after their race.

32. All Participants who successfully complete the race in the race categories Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km will be awarded a Finisher's medal, upon the presentation of their Bib Number to the respective officials

33. All Participants who successfully complete the Full Marathon Race Category (42.195km) shall also receive our exclusive Finisher's T-shirt upon presentation of their Bib Number, sizes subject however to availability.

34. All Finisher's Medals & T-Shirts can be collected on race day. No requests thereafter will be entertained

35. All participants who successfully complete the race in their elected category Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km will be awarded a finisher's certificate by mail. This will be sent out in August 2010. The Organiser is not responsible for any undelivered certificate due to incorrect or incomplete address given or lost mail.

36. The Organiser reserves the right to refuse awarding a finisher's certificate to any participant if his/her race was not completed successfully.

Non-competitive Events

There will be four (4) different categories for the non-competitive events:

37. Fun Run Individual & Family Fun Run (5km)

  1. Participants must be 13 years or older as of race day to participate in the Fun Run
  2. Fun Run Individual and Fun Run Family are non-competitive events and therefore, no Timing Tag will be issued and no official timing will be recorded or provided.
  3. The Fun Run Family is created for Families to attract them to run together.
  4. A Fun Run Family team can register a minimum of 3 up to a maximum of 6 family members and give their Team a name if wanted. The Team must start together with the 5km runners.

38. Kids Dash
There will be two (2) different categories for the Kids Dash by reference to age:

  1. 6-9 years old*
  2. 10-12 years old*

* Age as of race day.

39. Participants must be 12 years or younger (but not below age of 6 years) as of race day to participate in the Kids Dash.

40. Participants for the Kids Dash shall be entered by their parent/guardian who will complete the relevant indemnity declaration forms as deemed necessary by the Organiser upon online registration or in-person registration. Failing which, the Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry to any participant.

41. For children aged between 6 and 9 years old, only one parent/guardian, to be issued with an identification tag, will be allowed to accompany the child in the race.

42. The Kids Dash is non-competitive, therefore, no Timing Tag will be issued and no official timing will be recorded or provided.

43. All participants who are participating in the Fun Run, Fun Run Family and Kids Dash categories will be awarded with a participation certificate upon the presentation of their Bib Number. The participation certificates will be distributed on race day only. No requests thereafter will be entertained.

Run for a Cause / Corporate Challenge

44. Run for a Cause is an individual run for charity programme

  1. Participants who register for the "Run for a Cause" programme in support of the Event's official charity partners in 2010, are bound by the specific rules and regulations of the "Run for a Cause" programme in addition to the rules applicable to the individual categories as stipulated above.
  2. A Runner registered for "Run for a Cause" will have to raise a minimum amount of RM500 (from online donations) by 1 June 2010 and submit all donations collected to the Organiser and in return the registered Runner will be awarded with a waiver of the Events registration fee.
  3. If the minimum requirement is not met, the balance of the pledged amount will need to be paid by the Runner if he/she still wishes to participate in the Marathon or by paying the registration fee at the prevailing rate.
  4. In case the Runner decides not to participate in the race and is unable to raise the minimum required amount pledged, the amount raised will be donated to the designated charity of the Runner and no refund will be made.

45. Corporate Challenge (10km) is a corporate Run for Charity programme

  1. The company must be based in Malaysia to participate in the Corporate Challenge
  2. A company must register a minimum of 3 runners to take part in the Corporate Challenge. The participants must start together with the 10km Category runners.
  3. The Corporate Challenge has no gender specifications (all male/female or mixed is allowed).
  4. Registration fee for each runner is RM50 and should be paid together with the company' donation stipulated in 44.iv below.
  5. A minimum of RM1,000 per registered runner has to be donated to one of the Official Charity Partners on the website www.kl-marathon.com.
  6. Scoring System for Corporate Challenge: The team with the lowest aggregate "Net Time" of the first 3 finishers will be declared the winner.
  7. In case of a tie in the Corporate Challenge category the fastest "Net Time" between the slowest scoring participants in each team will determine the winner.

46. The Organiser shall not be responsible or held liable for any activity that is not considered as legal committed either by the official charity partner, any organisations or Participants who register and raise funds for the "Run for a Cause" or "Corporate Challenge" programmes.

47. All other charities or non-profit organisations must seek the approval of the Organiser to take part in any fund-raising project using the Event as a platform but not in conjunction with the Event. Please contact Organiser for further details.
