Dear Runners,
SCKLM2018 and the 10th Anniversary celebrations officially kicked off with an Official Launch event at Pacific Regency Hotel Suites earlier today, which was attended by representatives from the sponsors, DBKL, MAF, FTKLAA, members of the media, three-time consecutive winner of SCKLM's Malaysian Men's Category Muhaizar Mohamad, SCKLM Pacers and other guests. Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia's Managing Director and CEO Abrar A. Anwar, Khairul Anuar bin Mohd Juri, Assistant Director of Culture, Arts, Tourism and Sports, DBKL assisted to jointly launch the opening of public registrations at 10.00am.
Being our 10th Anniversary, the interest in SCKLM2018 has been mounting and the response for the opening of registrations over the last 8-10 hours has been unprecedented. Unfortunately this led to our registration servers being overwhelmed, which resulted in a lot of justifiable frustration, annoyance and anger from our runners who have been trying to register. We unreservedly apologise to all of you who experienced difficulties today, and we will take our learnings from this to continue to try to improve, not only during registrations but at all of our touchpoints with you.
We thank all of you for your patience and kind support, without which SCKLM would not be the event that it is. In fact your tremendous support has helped to already sell out the Full and Half Marathon individual categories for SCKLM2018, the quickest this has ever happened. 8,500 Full Marathon slots were snapped up in about six hours so a further 1,500 slots were opened to try to accommodate the demand, along with another 1,000 slots for the Half Marathon. As of 9.00pm today, all 10,000 slots for the 10th Anniversary of the SCKLM Full Marathon category have been taken up and now, we have also closed all other categories. We are extremely gratified to see the Full Marathon category increase in participation year-on-year as it is the pinnacle in distance running and we hope this quantity will slowly but surely turn to quality as we unearth future Muhaizars.
Although SCKLM has sold out over the last few years, we have been truly humbled by your amazing support of the event this year and rest assured we will now focus on delivering the best possible race experience for all of you. Our heartfelt thanks go out to each and every one of you who have registered and indeed, tried to register this year, and all the preceding years.
Again, we are deeply sorry for all the inconvenience experienced earlier today by runners who were trying to register. We hope this will not discourage you to try again. If you were ultimately successful in your registration, congratulations and see you at the start line!
